The adventure has officially begun! Late planes turned into missing planes and now that I am in Chile I am still just out of reach of the boat.
Apparently getting to the southernmost town in the world is hard. I’m still in transit 36 hours after leaving New York. Last night two other crew members arrived in Punta Arenas and together the three of us are trying to hop a plane 200 miles south to Puerto Williams but some cumulus clouds are getting in our way.
The plastic expedition should start soon. The crew from 5 Gyres and Pangea Explorations is waiting for us in Puerto Williams and expects us to ship out late tomorrow night or early Friday morning. Here’s to hoping we get there soon!
